My goal this year, like all the other years in the past, was to find happiness. Some people want to be successful, some people want to be rich and some people want to be famous. I just wanted to be happy. Boy am I glad to tell you, this year my efforts were a success! Not only am I happier, I am on a direction of being more successful, I’m doing something I love, and I’m healthier then ever.
In the past, I made the mistake of thinking I could find happiness in others. Two years ago, I experienced a trauma that really hit home that happiness cannot come from others and people will even rob you of whatever happiness you had. Since then, I’ve focused my energy on myself and became my own best friend. This was the best decision I could have ever made for myself and encourage you to do the same.
As I was sitting in my office Sunday afternoon working on my blog, I felt an overwhelming wave of happiness. This has become quite the norm for me since I’ve molded my life to provide me with the things that I need. I have been working my butt off in all aspects of my life and it was paying off! For some, it’s in the form of money, but for me it was the satisfaction of seeing how far I’d come and genuinely being happy with the life I had created for myself.
Once you put all the bullshit aside like friends that judge you and ex-boyfriends that screwed you over, life is so much sweeter. Life has a natural flow and if you keep trying to go against the current, every day will be more difficult. Certain things in life should be easy, and relationships are one of them. Sure, every once in a while you have a disagreement, but if it’s constantly bringing negativity in your life, say goodbye! You never know, in the future, your paths may cross again. For now, it’s just not meant to be. Remember your worth, what you bring to the table and what you deserve.
Working out is absolutely necessary for me to stay in physical shape but more importantly for my mental well-being. I workout twice a week by taking a class called Buti. It’s a mixture of yoga and booty shaking. If you like to dance and also like to feel your body’s strength, I highly suggest you try it! More info here. Another bonus to finding happiness has been my physical appearance. I smile often, I’m friendlier and wait for it… I’ve lost weight! I think many of us use food to provide us with instant happiness. One of my weaknesses are cookies. After a long stressful day, there is nothing easier than grabbing some cookies and eating them while watching Netflix. Or what about a burrito? Hehe, talk about instant gratification! Now, I’m a lot more in tune with my body. This goes beyond only limiting sweets but also listening to my body and what it needs to function. Vegetables are essential to a healthy immune system and I actually crave them now. I enjoy sweets when I crave them, not because I want something to make me happy.
As Christian Dior said, “There is no beauty without happiness”, so find your happiness and your beauty will follow. It did for me.
